A few weeks ago, I did link to the U.S. State Department page on the Libyan fashion designer Rabia Ben Barka. Here's a link to the NY Times article on the same designer. I wish her all of the success in the world, and from what I've seen, mi piace molto, i suoi disegni sono tradizionali ma moderno, la fusione perfetta di occidentali e libiche allo stesso tempo. (I like it a lot. Her designs are traditional but modern, Western and Libyan at the same time). Sorry to bring y'all back to colonialism par parlo italiano, but I find as I use my French more, my Italian also improves. Go figure. I took ONE QUARTER of Italian OVER ten years ago, but still remember quite a lot. Probably because I read Italian Vogue from time to time. Not for the pictures of garments I will never be able to afford, and usually find to be rather trashy, but for the thought provoking articles :-) Oh, and for the La Perla ads... Alex and I have done some "faision le leche vitrine d'Internet" (we've done online window shopping) of things we both like and want to see me in on our honeymoon (if not before then, because I have few morals when it comes to him. My eyes see him, my hormones take over, and my morals and brain grow wings and fly away) ;-)
Without further ado, here's the article. It says a lot of things that the State Department article did not, and that I had previously not heard about this designer. No wonder The (Brother) Leader always looks so amazing. He has a designer working to make him look great, while at the same time, she's getting world exposure to her stylish designs. Awesome idea, killing two birds with one stone.
