Eid Gifts, Part Eleventy

With Ramadan being roughly three quarters over, and Eid al Fitr rapidly approaching, this blog post may come a little bit late. But like the Christmas cards I rarely send out much before my birthday (which is in May), I say, "better late than never". And here are some more-- and some reinforced-- Eid gift ideas for the kiddos in your life.

While I'm not the biggest fan of children watching excessive amounts of television, due to it (probably) stunting their developing brains, I AM a fan of much loved "classic" cartoons translated into the Arabic language. I also find it to be an EXCELLENT way to learn Arabic myself... watching the cartoon, with the subtitles. Like everything from this eBay store-- http://stores.ebay.com/megoods79/ARABIC-CARTOONS-ENGLISH-SUBS-/_i.html?_fsub=1800452013&_sid=951988403&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322 -- called megoods79, they feature a large variety of Arabic TV series, Arabic dubbed cartoons with English subtitles, and more. Basically if you're looking for a copy of "The Lion King" or "The Little Mermaid" in Arabic, they have it. I admittedly do own Hercules, Aladdin, The Return of Jafar, and The Three Little Pigs from this store... although all except for Hercules are in Washington state while I'm in Southern California. Sigh.

For toys, I have to again recommend Muslim Toys and Dolls, at http://www.muslimtoysanddolls.com -- one, for their wide selection of products. Two, for the owner, Debbie Al Harbi, and her commitment to charity. She's one of the co-founders of the National Eid Toy Drive here in the US, and hopefully, will be able to help me get an Eid toy drive started in 2014 to benefit the children of Libya.

There are other places to get Fulla dolls and like Islamic dolls, but I still recommend Muslim Toys and Dolls due to the owner's commitment to charity and the wide selection of items. However, I want to be fair, so I'll share some other sites as well.

This one has a buy two, get one free special on Fulla dolls-- http://www.ebay.com/sch/mouthwateringdeals/m.html?item=310633723917&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item485336780d&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562 -- which means for $38, with free shipping in the US, you would receive THREE Indoor/Outdoor Fashion Fulla dolls. They also have the Fulla dentist doll, which is featured in one of the Fulla ads.

As for other Fulla dolls, here's the rest of my eBay search-- http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313&_nkw=Fulla+doll&_sacat=0&_from=R40.

Another eBay store that has a lot of Fulla products is this one-- Mediterranean Flare. http://stores.ebay.com/Mediterranean-Flare/Fulla-NewBoy-/_i.html?_fsub=2&_sid=58405956&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322. One thing I like about this store is their wide selection of Fulla gear, such as the duffle bag, backpack, umbrella, diary, etc. -- products that are all more difficult to find elsewhere. Like the Fulla watch-- http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fulla-Hand-Wristwatch-Digital-Watch-Muslim-Eid-Gift-Kid-/270392217087?pt=Wristwatches&hash=item3ef4a1cdff -- or the prayer set-- http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fulla-4pc-Prayer-Set-for-Girls-W-Soft-Satin-Prayer-Rug-/280938386856?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item41693b95a8 (which, I might add, is cheaper at Muslim Toys and Dolls, but the link above has a better picture).

I have to admit, though, that when I was a child, I tended to prefer more "practical" Christmas gifts at times. Like art supplies. For them, I recommend one place highly-- Dick Blick. Aside from a catchy, perhaps slightly off color name, they have a wide selection of products at great all around prices. Their website is at http://www.dickblick.com-- and they do have retail stores several places in the US (including 14 miles from my home in Azusa-- there's a store in Pasadena).

I do have issues when it comes to which products I like for myself, and for any children I would give gifts to. Crayola crayons trump all others, and thankfully, are now fifty cents a box at Walmart stores nationwide. Capitalism does have its good sides after all. Prismacolor colored pencils trump all others, and can usually be found for a good price on eBay (including a lot that I SERIOUSLY have my eye on on there-- 15 tins of 12 pencils a piece, for $76 with shipping). Paper is pretty much paper and all of it comes from trees. But as for construction paper and general craft/drawing paper, Crayola again makes superior products.

For adults, I do like Hijabis 4 Ever, http://www.hijabis4ever.com -- for their wide selection of clothing, hijabs, and also, items for the home;

East Essence, http://www.eastessence.com, for extremely stylish and well fashioned Islamic clothing and good prices too;

Middle Eastern Mall, http://www.middleeasternmall.com, for very stylish hijabs of all types, from the one piece Al Amira style scarves to the more complex one piece scarves, with hijab pins, items for the home, abayas, and everything else for the women in your life. Admittedly I do like this site in part because it is the site I initially ordered from for the New Muslimahs Hijab Fund. I also like their "free download", the guide to wearing hijab stylishly, which can be found here-- http://www.middleeasternmall.com/hijab-style-secrets-register.html.
