Nature's Deadly Beauty, Crowded Out

Again, if you're an arachnophobe, DO NOT READ ON. Because this is yet another posting of a spider, and I don't want to creep anyone out.

In many areas in Southern California, the more "native" black widow spider is being crowded out by the relative newcomer, the brown widow spider. Remember the first spider in my last post? Well, she's been crowded out, by this little beauty-- a brown widow spider.

Widow spiders exist all over the world, and apparently one commonly found in Libya is the white widow spider. Unlike the darker colored versions here in SoCal, the white widow is white-- with no characteristic hourglass marking. There's also the Mediterranean black widow, with its 13 spots. But like MOST widow spiders, the female's bite is not fatal to a HEALTHY adult. But of course, any bite or sting from any insect, snake, spider, or sea creature, should be checked out by a medical professional if "above average" symptoms develop.
