Decorating a house, apartment, or other dwelling for the holidays is something done across all cultures and all religions.
I'm Catholic, and decorate mostly for Christmas, although sometimes I decorate for other minor holidays, including the Fourth of July ("Independence Day" for all you non-Yanks out there).
A festive home during Ramadan is something many Muslims do, and thankfully, it can be done tastefully, and "on the cheap."
Ramadan lanterns can be purchased from IKEA in various colors, ROTERA Lantern for Tealight, and if desired, spray painted and decorated however one likes. I'm a big fan of purple and other jewel tones, so I'd add glitter (Krylon Glitter Blast Spray Paint) to this one Lilac ROTERA Tealight Holder, and also, if it was part of a table centerpiece, add jewel toned fabrics (vibrant blues, greens, reds, purples, etc.).
The ROTERA tea light holders are extremely reasonable at $3.99, at all IKEA stores, and tealights to go inside are also reasonable (these SINNLIG scented tea lights are $2.99 for 30, other IKEA candles are here: Scented Candles and here, Unscented Candles-- 100 unscented tea lights can be had for the low price of $3.49).
A fun craft idea for those Muslimahs with children, or those who are involved at a masjid, would be to make hijab and abaya for dolls. I blogged on it many moons ago, at this URL-- Hijab and Abaya for 18" Dolls-- MMH Post --this is a fun and easy way for American Muslim girls to celebrate their Islamic heritage, and to also, spread their faith to friends in an easy, relatable way.
But back to decorating! I definitely like both Joann Fabrics and Michaels stores. And of course, of Pinterest, Instagram, and the like. They're a host of good decorating ideas, and of getting the products to make said crafts.
These Fruit and Date Kabobs would be a cute and easy and healthy foodie way to break the fast at the end of the day.
These "mosque inspired" Candle Holders would go great on any table, perhaps in conjunction with the previously mentioned IKEA lanterns. The plain glass candle holders are here-- IKEA glass candle holders-- and are available at all price points, including as low as 49 cents.
Needless to say, there's a host of ways to make one's home festive for the imminently approaching month of Ramadan, and I hope this post was a little help... and may everyone have a blessed, happy, fruitful Ramadan that brings them closer to God each and every day.
