COMING SOON! Hijab and abaya for 18" dolls (and my Etsy shop)

Ever since I found this pattern-- http://frugalabundance.com/hijab.pdf -- which is for a hijab scarf for an 18" doll (like American Girl, Maplelea, Harmony Club, etc)., I've been searching high and low for an abaya pattern for 18" dolls. Or a place that sells hijab and abaya for an 18" doll.

There is literally no place that sells either one. Which is where I come in. I'll be opening up an Etsy shop soon, initially selling Rainbow Loom loom band bracelets for 18" dolls, and then expanding before very long to include religious items, like that elusive hijab and abaya, for the same dolls. Not many places sell the loom band bracelets for dolls, and the places that do are overpriced and (in my opinion), under quality. I know I can create a superior product and sell it for less, which will give the market more choices and force those already in it to diversify their product lines or suffer.

Which is what capitalism is all about-- supply and demand. Since there is literally NO PLACE to purchase a hijab or abaya for an 18" doll out there, I'm going to be in a niche market. Literally, I'm creating the niche. It isn't there. It needs to be there. Which is why I'm creating it, so Muslim girls have something Islamically acceptable for their dolls to wear.

I'm just after a simple abaya, something like these pictures...

Something basic and timeless, something simple, but something that also is Islamically acceptable. I may jazz it up with a funkier hijab print, or use one of my new sewing machine's awesome embroidery stitches, or perhaps buy some ribbon or appliques to dress it up. I'm not sure yet. I do know my incredibly fashionable friend S has some beautiful abayas designed for her by John Galliano.

I lack a pattern, which is THE ONLY thing stopping me right now. However, I have resources out there, and I intend to use each and every one in order to make my goal become reality. There are some good aspects to a Type A personality, and this dogged determination is one of them. I am DETERMINED to create a line of Islamically correct apparel for American, Muslim girls-- or more correctly, their dolls.

But in any case-- COMING SOON! Hijab and abaya for 18" dolls! Will update this post once my Etsy shop is open, and once I have a functional pattern for an abaya.
