Nine days ago, I had some pretty extensive dental work done-- three root canals (on teeth #14, 15, and 30), I think three cavities (though each had multiple surfaces so it's more like nine fillings), and a deep cleaning. Needless to say, I was out for the procedures... God bless whoever invented the idea of sedation dentistry-- it's a wonderful and beautiful thing (and like most wonderfully beautiful things, it's also expensive!). The IV was put in my arm at around 8:00 am on Friday the 13th, the initial Versed was "pushed" into the IV port shortly thereafter, and that's the last thing I really remember until around 11:15 am when I came to and my left arm was restrained. They weren't quite done with things, but I was still pretty out of it.
Anyhow, last Sunday afternoon (the 15th), I was out for a pleasant Sunday drive on a rare, sunny day (this IS the Northwest, after all, and we have two main types of weather-- rain and liquid sunshine, LOL) along the beautiful, scenic Columbia River on SR-4, headed towards County Line Park. All of a sudden, something didn't feel right along my gumline, I ran my tongue along the temporary crown (teeth #14 and 15 are one "bridge like" crown), and the crown fell off. I was shocked, and 11 miles from home at that point. If not for chewing a piece of gum, I probably would've panicked a bit. Driving a car going 55 mph is not exactly something you want to panic while doing. I made it home after making a U-turn in a wide point of the road, and did manage to eat dinner later that day (it's actually easier to eat with the crown off than with it on), before making it into the dentist bright and early the next morning. Tammy, one of the dental assistants at Rainier Park Dental, glued the crown back on...
Which is where it stayed, until yesterday evening (Sunday). I was chewing a piece of gum (on the other side of my mouth) while doing some grocery shopping, and off pops the crown. It's an annoyance at this point... having to call the dentist, then possibly having to go BACK ACROSS the Rainier, OR bridge, to the dentist to have them glue it on AGAIN. I'm hoping the permanent crowns are almost ready... and that I can just leave the stupid thing off until they arrive. It obviously doesn't want to stay on. Nor do I like the hassle of having to drive over to the dentist, sit in a dental chair, and have to deal with the process of having the crown glued back... once was annoying. Twice will be more so. And since the crown should be in any day now, it'd be redundant to glue it back just to have it be popped off and replaced with the two permanent crowns in a day or so. And a waste of gas, considering it's now AT LEAST $3.10 a gallon around Longview. I'd bitch and moan about the OPEC nations, but it isn't fully their fault. Our own domestic oil companies, taxes, and other issues are to blame.
